Chillax

Somewhere near the confluence of chilling and relaxing is a place Lewis might call “of Deep Magic” and we affectionately refer to as chillaxing.  If you researched chillax in Greek or Hebrew, you’d probably find “try easy” as a synonym and then “see reference: Matthew 11:28-32 in The Message.”

In some ways, it is the hardest and easiest thing to do. Kind of like doing nothing.

It’s learning to pause.

To breathe.

To slow down.

To receive.

To let the weight of the world slide off our shoulders.

To be present long enough to actually enjoy something.

This decade of excavation is an intense one with demands on every side. It’s a crucible; it’s the fire that forges kings.

And, if we can graduate from this decade having mastered the Kingdom art of chillaxing, we’ll be well on our way to living wholehearted as men.

And let’s face it: we’ll be a hell of a lot more fun to do life with.

I’ve sat at the feet of many men who have invited us to hold this paradox: know that our lives play a more significant role in God’s story than we have believed, and don’t take ourselves too seriously in the midst.  Relax. Enjoy. Play. Take a real rest.  The more we wade into the life-giving waters of Sonship, the more this paradox of significance and rest will be available to our hearts as men.

Check out these songs as a bump in the right direction.  And add to the list yourself as the Father leads you.

Maybe even try a headstand or quit wearing underwear (I abandoned the extra layer nearly a decade ago) or whatever it takes for you to begin to play.

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:23-32 The Message

Whatever you do, try easy for a change.  Don’t make it one more place of striving.

Learn to receive.

Give yourself permission.
